Central
Central Elementary School third graders in Ms. Sara Earl's art class spent time studying the difference between realistic and abstract art.
Ms. Earl had the students create their own piece of abstract art using the letters from their first name, as well as some of the letters from their last name if they wanted to.
Having the students following along step by step, Ms. Earl drew the first letter of her name and talked about the importance of placement and size.
The students drew the first letter of their names on their blank canvas.
She then added the second letter and gave the students parameters as to where the letters had to be.
For example, the first letter had to touch two different edges of the paper while the second letter had to touch one edge and a part of the first letter.
The students continued to map out and draw the letters, and once they had everything drawn they moved on to tracing it with a marker.
The next step was to add patterns and gradients of colors to fill in their name art.
The students look forward to finishing their abstract masterpieces next time they meet.
