Central Elementary School third graders in Ms. Sara Earl's art class are learning how to work with plaster as they construct their very own masks.

Starting with a paper bowl, the students turned it upside down and made different features for their mask with aluminum foil and tape.

When they were done with this step, it was time to layer sheets of plaster on the bowls.

The students took one sheet at a time, dipped it in water, strained it and then laid it down on an area of their mask.

As they continued layering the plaster to make their masks stronger, they made sure to smooth out all of the holes.

They worked carefully and methodically and had fun learning about this new method of art.

Next week the students are looking forward to deciding what colors to paint their masks and what details to add to make them unique.
