Creativity and Ingenuity at the Maker's Fair

Creativity and Ingenuity at the Maker's Fair
Central

At Central Elementary School this week students had the opportunity to show off their engineering skills at the school's annual Maker's Fair.

The fair showcased each student's creativity, ingenuity and collaboration with fellow classmates.

Multiple stations were set up throughout the school in the library media center, the art room and the hallways.

Stations ranged from slime-making, perfume-making, games, crocheting, trains on tracks, paper mache art and marshmallow-building.

One student's station showcased two mechanical hands that he built, with the entire building process presented on a board.

Students were able to put the hand on themselves and test it out.

The students were amazed at how cool it was and how they could use it to grab things, as if it was a real hand.

The student explained that the mechanical hands are modeled after how a real hand works, with rubber bands acting as tendons.

Using cardboard and everyday items, students designed and built two distinct mazes for a head-to-head Mazes Race, challenging each other to guide a ball through their creations with speed and precision.

A student's lava lamp station, featuring a cool green example, drew a crowd and taught others how to make their own.

All of the students had an opportunity to walk around the Maker Fair to see what their fellow classmates had on display.

The students had a fun time exploring all of the different stations and many are looking forward to making something to showcase next year!
