The fifth graders at Central Elementary School learned all about the exciting architectural changes that are currently happening at their school.

Mr. Alan Armbrust, an architect from STR Partners, a Chicago-based architectural firm, and Mr. Shawn Ryan, an engineer at Pepper Construction, visited Central to present their construction plans for the school.

Mr. Armbrust handed out a 3D mockup of the school's new cafeteria and library addition, which are currently being constructed at Central.

The handout also included traditional floor plans, as well as examples of work that STR Partners has done at other schools.

Mr. Ryan talked about the collaborative process with STR Partners, and how an engineer starts and finishes a project like this.

He explained the importance of finding the correct materials for the job and how to find materials that are the best match to the materials that are already in place.

The students had many questions for both of them, including asking each what their dream projects were.

The class enjoyed studying the floor plans, the 3D mockup and the presentation they had put together for them.

Even though they will be moving on to middle school, many of the students are planning to come back to the school next year to see how everything looks once it's completed.
