New Families
On behalf of our entire staff here at Central Elementary School, we welcome you to our learning community. Our school has many caring staff that will be present and available as you take your first steps here with us.
Welcome to Central elementary school!
Dear Central School Families,
We are excited to welcome you to the 2024-2025 school year. Our theme for this year is “Imagination Station”. If you can dream it, we can create it. We are rebranding our school and want everyone to have a part in building our new vision, mascot and logo. I will be asking for input via surveys and other communications.
Please feel free to get involved by signing up to volunteer at the school, join the PTO, or attend our school performances. We are looking forward to a great year and a strong partnership.
Our first day is Tuesday, August 20th for 1st - 5th grade students and Wednesday, August 21st for kindergarten students.
School Supplies Drop Off
We will be having a material drop off for 1st - 5th grade students will occur from 1:00-3:00 on Monday, August 19th. At that time you will be able to come into the building and your child will see where his/her locker is located and can put their supplies in their locker. If you are unable to attend the material drop off, you can bring in supplies that first week of school. Our supply list is on our website. Here is the link.
Just a reminder that we will be getting new iPads this year. All students will need Usb-C headphones.
Kindergarten students will receive a separate letter indicating whether you are enrolled in AM or PM kindergarten and will be given a sign up to drop off supplies and meet the teachers on Monday, August 19th as there is no school for kindergarten students on that day.
Positive Behavior System
We are counting on one another to be safe, respectful, responsible, and ready to learn. Those are the tenets of our Positive Behavior System. This is a long letter with a great deal of information to help start the school year. I will be sending a Weekly What’s Up newsletter to keep you informed of upcoming events, etc. You can also follow us on Instagram. You will be receiving information about our Parent Information Night which will be held on Thursday, August 29th from 6:00-7:00.
Homeroom Teacher
You can find your child(ren)’s homeroom teacher(s) on the parent portal of Infinite Campus starting on August 9th. If you have any questions or have trouble accessing the portal you can contact the office at (847)824-1575 or you can contact the technology department at service@d62.org. At this time, we do not have a building secretary so please be patient with us as we are in the middle of the hiring process.
Arrival and Dismissal
Please be aware that we are making some changes to our arrival procedures this year. We will no longer have supervision on the playground. We will let students into the school building starting at 8:45. They will either eat breakfast (if you choose to pay for it or are entitled to free/reduced meals) or students will stand by their lockers (with hallway supervisors) until the bell rings at 8:57 and students will enter classrooms. Class will begin promptly at 9:00. We are doing this to ensure that we are not missing instructional time. We are also attempting to increase our safety protocols.
If you arrive at school after 9:00, parents must sign their student in at the front office.
Kindergarten, fourth, and fifth grade students will enter the building through door number 7 (by the baseball field). Parents of kindergarten, 4th and 5th grade should use Prairie Avenue.
First, second and third grade students will enter the building through the main entrance door number 1.
When dropping off your child, use the circle drive. You are not allowed to make a left-hand turn out of the circle drive. We are trying to keep traffic flowing smoothly. There is no reason for you to get out of your car. IF you need to come into the building you should park your car on Thacker Street in front of the school.
If you need to pick up your child early for any reason, you will need to come to the office and sign your child out. Please arrange for your child to leave prior to 3:00 if they must leave early, otherwise they will need to wait until 3:30 with everyone else. The office is extremely busy at the end of the day and we do not want to have any confusion with students leaving.
Lunch/Recess
We have lunch/recess from 12:10 - 1:00. We discourage lunches from fast food restaurants for a number of reasons. Please help your child remember to bring their lunch in the morning. We are working on responsibility and remembering our iPads, chargers, homework, gym shoes, instruments, etc. Please help us help your child! If you want your child to have a special meal for a birthday or whatever reason, you are welcome to take your child out for lunch or have them go home for lunch. You will just need to sign out.
We do offer lunch and breakfast at school. We have a new food service this year called OrganicLife.
You must pay online through Infinite Campus. Be aware that we do not have change in the office.
Student lunches are $3.05 and milk is 65 cents.
Student breakfasts are $1.50 and served between 8:45 and 8:57 - you can enter the front door.
Here’s to a great 2024-25 school year. We appreciate your partnership and are grateful for your trust in us. We will do our best to ensure a positive experience for your child.
Sincerely,
Dr. Cupuro, Principal
School Expectations
To help students be successful in school, we provide clear and consistent expectations for behavior through a system called PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports).
This not only allows for success it helps support equitable practices.
The behavior expectations should be followed in all settings throughout the school day. On the bus, in the classroom, at lunch and recess. The expectations keep all students safe and attend to the their learning.
The guiding principles are for students to:
-
Be Respectful
-
Be responsible
-
Be Safe
-
BE ready to learn
